Post Office: Becky Hammon
WNBA.com, 2000 Season NEW YORK'S BECKY HAMMON is another "true" rookie playing this season in the WNBA, having signed with the New York Liberty as a free agent after becoming Colorado State's all-time scoring leader, averaging 21.9 points per game over four college seasons. Something of a surprise for the Liberty, Becky has given Richie Adubato's club quality minutes at both the point and off-guard positions, averaging 2.9 points in only 6.8 minutes per contest. Hammon has twice scored nine points in a game this season and has, at a mere 5-6, given Liberty opponents another weapon to fear in the formidable New York arsenal.
Hey Becky! Just wanted to congratulate you on some good games...I have
come
to many of your games, and have gotten into keeping up with the WNBA games
this year. You played great this past Sunday against Orlando... So I have
to ask...what do you think of NYC? Quite a change from good 'ol South
Dakota, huh! But it's a fun place to be, certainly never a dull moment!
How
are you enjoying this level of ball? Will you still be here in the
off-season, or what does that entail? Becky Hammon: Hello, it's nice to hear from you. New York City certainly is a big change from South Dakota. It's certainly been a learning experience for me, and very enjoyable. My living and playing here has been an adjustment. And right when I'm starting to know my way around it will be time for me to leave to back to Colorado for school. Thanks for writing!
Congratulations on your success! How has your rookie season been? Have you
met all your goals? What has losing Rebecca Lobo so early in the season
meant to your team? I've seen Tamika Whitmore and wonder why she doesn't
play more? Hammon: My rookie season has been great. It's actually been a very smooth transition for me and to make the playoffs in my first season is simply awesome. Your question regarding Lobo is a good one...Lobo brings a lot more to this team then just her numbers on the court. She's a great leader who we've all missed very much this year.
Hi, you're playing really well. In your basketball career, which game
stands out in your mind has being your best? KEEP IT UP! Hammon: My memorable moment in basketball so far is when my college team, Colorado State, advanced into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tourney this past year. Thanks for the Question!
I just wanted to say that I was impressed by you ever since I saw one of
your college games. My question is, was there ever anything that made you
want to stop playing basketball? And, is it hard to sit on the bench now
after playing so many minutes in college? Thanks for taking the time to
(hopefully) answer my question! Hammon: It's nice to hear that the fans and I had in college are now watching me in the pros. Everybody at one point or another feels like giving up, especially when you play as much basketball as we do, but that's the very reason that someone can get to this level...is that we never give up! I'll always get up and try again, which to me is why I can accept my role now, because I know if I keep improving and trying, my minutes will start to increase, as well.
Hey! So, what NBA team and player were you looking up to while growing up? Hammon: I never really looked up to professional athletes when I was younger. My role model was probably my dad and my brother. We didn't have any pro teams in South Dakota, so I was never really interested. If I could have watched the WNBA while growing up, my answer would probably have been different. Thanks! TO THE TOP |
